How To Reboot A Satellite Modem

Sometimes your Modem provided by Clear Networks will stop functioning. This can be from a variety of things from a small power spike or brownout, to RF interference and weather conditions or high temperature.

Normally service can be restored  by rebooting the modem.

For a Grey box: (also known as an M3)

  1. Locate the side of the modem with cables attached to it
  2. Below the fan, there should be a power cable.
  3. Below the power cable, there should be a switch with “I/O” printed on it. (highlighted below)
  4. To power down the modem, toggle to switch to the “O” position
  5. Check the lights on the front of the modem, they all should be off
  6. Wait 30 seconds, then toggle the switch to the “I” position. The lights should reappear.
  7. Wait 5 minutes before attempting to access the Internet again.

For a white box: (also known as an M4)

  1. Locate the side of the modem with cables attached to it
  2. A white power cable should be attached to this side. Follow this cable. This will lead to a smaller white box.
  3. On this box, there should be a switch with “I/O” printed on it.
  4. To power down the modem, toggle the switch to the “O” position
  5. Check the lights on the front of the modem, they all should be off
  6. Wait 30 seconds, then toggle the switch to the “I” position. The lights should reappear.
  7. Wait 5 minutes before attempting to access the Internet again.

We have not had internet for about 10 days - not even intermittently. We have rebooted our modem several times without any improvement. It has always been fragile, dropping out for no apparent reason. I suspect the NBN satellite dish is either set with the wrong orientation, or been knocked by wind out of the correct orientation or something has become disconnected. Whatever the reason, we have no service at all, and we want a reliable service that we have been waiting for a couple of years now to enjoy.
