How To Perform TX/RX Cable Reset On Satellite Modem

Customers who cannot connect after rebooting the modem can most times get back online by performing a "TX/RX Reset" as described below.

The cables to the dish on the roof provide power to the equipment as well as carrying all the signals required for two way satellite communication. The connections can become loose or a thin layer of corrosion can prevent proper contact.  For these reasons it is required to remove, check and reinsert the cables to overcome the above mentioned issues.

"Resetting" the cables is simple.

For a Grey box: (Also known as an M3)

  1. Locate the side of the modem with cables attached to it
  2. Below the fan, there should be a power cable.
  3. Below the power cable, there should be a switch with “I/O” printed on it.
  4. To power down the modem, toggle to switch to the “O” position
  5. On the same side of the modem, locate the 2 black coaxial cables. They should be attached to ports labelled “Sat TX” and “Sat RX” (see below)
  6. Remove these cables from the modem. (You may need to unscrew them. Please use a spanner if required. Also please label the cables if necessary as placing them back incorrectly will prevent your satellite service from working)
  7. After 30 mins, place the cables back in the same ports they were originally attached to, taking care not to bend the pins, clean them if they appear corroded, the cables will only need to be finger tight, do not tighten them with a tool)
  8. Toggle the power switch to the “I” position. The lights should reappear.
  9. After 5 minutes please try Browsing. Failing this, please contact our support department.
